تفاصيل مثيرة عن هجوم كاد يهز مدينة نيو أورليانز الأميركية
أحبطت السلطات الأميركية مخططا “لتنفيذ هجوم” في مدينة نيو أورليانز بعد توقيف جندي سابق في قوات مشاة البحرية الأميركية (المارينز) أثناء توجهه إلى المدينة، وبحوزته أسلحة ودرع واق
داخل سيارته، وفقا لوثائق قضائية حصلت عليها وكالة أسوشيتد برس، الثلاثاء.
ووُجهت إلى ميكاه جيمس ليغنون (28 عاما) تهمة توجيه تهديدات عبر الولايات المختلفة.
وذكرت السلطات الاتحادية أنها كانت تراقب ليغنون بسبب صلاته بجماعة متطرفة معادية للرأسمالية ومعادية للحكومة.
وأوضحت السلطات أن 4 من أعضاء هذه الجماعة اعتقلوا يوم الجمعة في شرق لوس أنجلوس، أثناء تدريبهم على تنفيذ مخطط أُحبط لاحقا لتفجير قنابل في جنوب كاليفورنيا ليلة رأس السنة.
وقالت السلطات إن التخطيط لهجوم في نيو أورليانز تصاعد بعد نشر عدة مئات من عناصر الهجرة في جنوب شرق ولاية لويزيانا.
وتحمل عملية إنفاذ القانون اسم “كاتاهولا كرانش”، وتهدف إلى تنفيذ 5 آلاف عملية توقيف.
وتعد هذه الحملة الأحدث ضمن سلسلة عمليات أمنية مماثلة نُفذت أيضا في لوس أنجلوس وشيكاغو وشارلوت بولاية نورث كارولاينا.
وبحسب الوثائق القضائية، اعتقد ليغنون أن الوقت قد حان “لإعادة إنتاج واقعة واكو” من خلال هجوم في نيو أورليانز.
واستشهدت السلطات برسالة دردشة كتبها ليغنون في 4 ديسمبر تحت الاسم المستعار “كاتيري ذا ويتش”، وذلك في اليوم التالي لوصول عناصر من وكالة الهجرة والجمارك الأميركية إلى نيو
أورليانز.
